Shri Krishna Rasotsav: Sharad Poornima 2026 — Prernamurti Bharti Shriji

Discover the spiritual significance of Krishna’s Rasa Leela, the divine dance with the Gopis, and His mysterious disappearance as described in the Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana.

The Divine Dance on a Moonlit Night

On a beautiful night of Sharad Purnima, under the radiance of the full moon, Shri Krishna performed the enchanting Rasa Leela with the Gopis of Vrindavan. As described in the Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana, Skandha 10, Chapter 33, Krishna manifested Himself between the Gopis, appearing beside each one so that every Gopi felt He was dancing exclusively with her. Yet Krishna remained one, present with all simultaneously. The circular dance became a divine expression of love, joy, and spiritual union.

As the story of Shri Krishna and beloved Gopis unfolds, let us look at when Sharad Purnima falls in 2026. This year Sharad Purnima is on 25th October 2026.

Later in this blog we will have philosophical insight of Prernamurti Bharti Shriji which is the crux of Rasotsav.

Let's continue with Rasa Leela ...

When Krishna Disappeared

Immersed in the bliss of the Rasa Leela, the Gopis began to feel exceptionally fortunate to receive Krishna's special attention. Seeing this subtle pride arising from their sense of good fortune, Keshava mysteriously disappeared.

The Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana explains this moment in Skandha 10, Chapter 29, Verse 48:

तासां तत्सौभगमदं वीक्ष्य मानं च केशवः ।
प्रशमाय प्रसादाय तत्रैवान्तरधीयत ॥ ४८ ॥

The verse states that Krishna disappeared to calm their pride and bestow His grace upon them.

The joyful dance soon gave way to longing. The Gopis searched through the forest, remembering Krishna's beauty and pastimes. Their search, described in Chapter 30, reveals how separation deepens their absorption in Him.

The Deeper Meaning of Rasa Leela

The Rasa Leela beautifully brings together two profound aspects of devotion: the bliss of divine presence and the longing created by separation. Krishna's dance with every Gopi illustrates His ability to respond to each devotee personally, without being divided or diminished.

Shri Krishna's disappearance offers a complementary lesson: divine love is not something to possess or take pride in. The Gopis' longing became an even deeper expression of their devotion.

Prernamurti Shriji's Message — The Subtle Call of Krishna's Flute

The story of the Gopis offers a profound insight into the nature of spiritual awakening. The moment they heard Lord Krishna's flute, they left their household chores and daily activities and rushed towards Him. Their response symbolises the inner tendencies (vrittis) of the human mind, which is drawn towards Krishna when its true significance is realised. In that moment, worldly responsibilities seemed secondary to the irresistible call of divine love.

Krishna's flute represents the eternal call of the Divine, which resonates within every heart. This call reaches us through the experiences of everyday life — through moments of joy and sorrow, unexpected circumstances, and the awakening of our conscience. Yet, absorbed in worldly concerns and distractions, we often fail to recognise or listen to it.

Spiritual awakening begins when we learn to recognise the Supreme as the central purpose of our existence rather than allowing worldly circumstances to dictate our priorities. When our hearts turn towards Krishna with sincere love and devotion, we begin to experience an inner peace and bliss reminiscent of the Gopis' complete absorption in Krishna.

On Sharad Purnima, this timeless episode invites us to reflect on the beauty of divine love, the importance of humility, and the spiritual depth of remembering the Beloved even in His apparent absence.
