Why the World Still Turns to the Bhagavad Gita

December 1, 2025: Celebrating Bhagavad Gita Jayanti

On Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi (December 1, 2025), we celebrate the divine descent of the Bhagavad Gita, a timeless scripture that has been a guiding light for countless seekers across centuries.

Gita Jayanti 2025

This sacred day invites us to reflect on how the Gita was born on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, not as a mere text, but as practical wisdom for the deepest challenges of life.

“We may lose everything in life, but as long as the Bhagavad Gita remains with us, we can rest assured of our spiritual wealth and guidance.”

Gita Jayanti 2025

The Gita has been translated into the highest number of languages worldwide, surpassing even other spiritual texts in reach and relevance. It is the distilled nectar of the Upanishads, a universal scripture for humanity.

Why the World Turns to the Bhagavad Gita

The Gita is like nectar milked from the spiritual cows of the Upanishads—sweet, nourishing, and life-giving to all who partake in it.

It is said, after truly drinking the nectar of the Gita, the soul feels fulfilled, needing nothing else for spiritual sustenance.

Even scholars and intellectuals worldwide, irrespective of their background, have found themselves drawn to its pages.

The True Test of the Gita: A Real Incident

Once, in the hills of Shimla, there lived Mr. Stock, a British missionary who had come to India to convert people to Christianity. After years of preaching, he noticed that no Hindu willingly accepted Christianity out of faith; those who converted did so for jobs or worldly advantages.

Curious, Mr. Stock asked a Hindu friend why he should convert, and the friend jokingly replied:

“Why would I leave my religion unless you can prove a fault in it?”

This led Mr. Stock to explore Hinduism. A learned Hindu advised him:

“If you wish to truly understand Hinduism, read the Bhagavad Gita. It is the condensed directory of Sanatan Dharma.”

With the intention of finding faults, Mr. Stock began reading an English translation of the Gita by Mrs. Annie Besant. Within four to five months, a radical transformation occurred. He began to see the greatness of Krishna’s teachings and the depth of Hindu philosophy.

Eventually, he gathered his family (over four dozen members) and said:

“Either convince me fully of Christianity, or let me share with you what I have found in Hinduism.”

Debates followed with various Christian pastors, but his family, hearing both sides, witnessed the limitations of Christian doctrines against the truth of Sanatan Dharma.

In the end, the entire family declared themselves Hindus, built a temple of Lord Krishna in their home, and engaged in daily Gita recitation and Krishna kirtan.

They recognized themselves under the principle:

“येऽपि स्यु पापयोनयः” (Even those of sinful birth, who take refuge in Me, attain the supreme path)
