What is Chaturmaas?


Chaturmaas, a Sanskrit term meaning "four months," is a significant period in the Hindu calendar 📅dedicated to spiritual growth, introspection, and rejuvenation. It's observed from Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi (DevShayani Ekadashi) to Kartika Shukla Ekadashi (DevUthani Ekadashi). In 2024, Chaturmaas spanned from July 17 to November 12.


It is believed that Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, enters a deep meditative state known as Yog Nidra. This celestial slumber lasts for four months, after which He awakens, signaling the end of Chaturmaas.People might also choose to take on personal vows, like observing silence for a period, giving up a favorite food, or limiting themselves to just one meal a day.
