Celebrate Diwali 2021 - The Vedic Way

Diwali means the escape of extreme darkness and the expansion of divine light all around!  The Diya is a symbol of wisdom. Rows of Diyas are lit in Deepawali to remind you that every aspect of your life needs the light of wisdom.

What is Diwali and Why is it Celebrated?

Diwali - the festival of lights is also known as Deepawali which is derived from two words- Deep (Diya) and Awali. Awali means row. Thus the word Deepawali means rows of Diyas. During Deepavali, Diyas are lit everywhere, hence the name of this festival is Deepawali. It is also called Deepotsav. 'Tamaso ma jyotirgamaya.' means head towards light from darkness, which is the commandment of the Upanishads. Everyone celebrates Deepotsav with great joy. Happy Diwali wishes and Diwali greetings pour in from friends and relatives - May Lakshmi always reside in your house, let there be light of knowledge.

Lord Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya after ending his fourteen years of exile, at that time everyone in Ayodhya celebrated Deepotsav. Since then the Diwali Celebration started!

Why do we light Diyas on Diwali?

According to Skand Purana Diya symbolises sun , the giver of cosmic energy to all life forms.

There is also a scientific reason behind igniting Diyas . After monsoon, many insects and harmful microbes roam in large numbers in our environment. They cause many diseases. When we light Diyas on Deepawali, the microbes scattered around are destroyed by burning in their flames.

Diyas do not cause diseases and do not pose a risk of skin diseases, etc. Rays from Diya produce magnetic force that enters through the human skin and activates the nerves. Diyas are not harmful to the environment , they have the ability to keep the environment clean for four hours whereas electric lights are mostly made of plastic which is not good for the environment.

How do Hindus celebrate Diwali?[2]

1.Wake up early in the morning and take a bath by applying sapta dhanya ubtan made of wheat, barley, rice, gram, moong dal, urad dal and sesame, which helps to become healthy.

2.Offer water to Sun GOD by adding roli and sunflower oil to the water.

3.After worshiping the cow, apply tilak on the forehead of the cow with sunflower oil and roli paste.

4.Make a Swastika of turmeric on the doorpost of your house, office, shop etc. in the evening. Worship the Swastika with Akshat, flowers, etc.

5.Light 4 lamps, two of ghee and two of oil (mustard or sesame) and place them in a way such that they face all the four directions.

6.Place Goddess Mahalakshmi on the right side of Ganesha and Goddess Saraswati on the left.

7.From Deepawali to Bhai Dooj, worship Mahalakshmi by anointing with milk, offering Akshat, flowers, and scent.

 8. In the evening, wear yellow clothes and light the Diya, then apply tilak of saffron. Recite this mantra 108 times

'Om Shrim Klim Mahalakshmyai Namo Namaha'

Offer 108 flowers of rose and keep a four-flamed lamp lit overnight.

Then chant this mantra twice with Sphatik mala.

'Om Namah Bhagyalakshmi Cha Vidmahe Ashtalakshmi Cha Dhimahi. Tanno Lakshmi Prachodayat '

This leads to prevention of impoverishment.

What are the 5 days of Diwali? [3]

1.Dhanteras (Nov 02, 2021)- It is celebrated on Kartik Krishna Trayodashi . This is called 'Dhanteras' or 'Dhantrayodashi' . The significance of this day is that Dhantrayodashi is the birth anniversary of Dhanvantari, the Vaidya(Doctor) of the Gods.

Diwali Celebrations with Deprived sections of society-  Diwali 2021

It is true that Diwali is a festival of lights, happiness and prosperity but just think about those poor potters who rely only on earthen pots made in scorching heat and sell it on Diwali. Due to the pandemic during Diwali 2020 small vendors suffered a lot .

Prernamurti Bharti Shriji says-

'People who are hand to mouth vendors , craftsmen , potters etc face many hardships in life . Rapid use of candles and electric lights has taken away employment from potters. So why not make their Diwali a bit brighter and joyous by buying each and every item from them ? You can encourage others as well to purchase Ganesh Laxmi idols , Diyas , diwali decoration items and rangoli from such vendors.

This diwali let's take care of all the small shopkeepers around us. If we buy Diyas, then the money will go to the poor potter's house and his house will be illuminated, but if we use Chinese electric lights, the money from our country will go abroad.

On Deepawali a small diya filled with oil conveys the message that just as the duty of a Diya is to ignite and spread light gradually , similarly the purpose of the Diwali festival is to share happiness amongst othersBy lighting Diya; happiness, prosperity and peace pervades in the house, inauspiciousness is destroyedhealth alsobenefits. If someone is lonely, needy, sad, then celebrate the festival along with him . Where the darkness of despair is visible, lighting a Diya there and spreading the light of enthusiasm is the message of Diwali.

So let us go back to our old traditions and this time on Diwali, brighten up our own house as well as the houses of thousands of poor potters with Diya.

So instead of visiting mega shopping complexes and Malls , prefer and recommend S-Mall i.e small vendors  because - S-Mall ka khyal sab nihal'.

Diwali- The Joy of Giving

On every Diwali, Prernamurti Bharti Shriji visits the houses of extremely deprived sections of the society in villages and distributes household items like grains , clothes , blankets and other essential items of everyday life and some money amongst poor people along with clothes and toys amongst the children. Her holiness spends some time with them and celebrates Diwali with them.

One may have received many Diwali gifts but they are nothing in front of blessings and compassion which Shriji bestows.
