MOTHER'S DAY 2022

Out of many relationships that one may come across, there is only one that is established even before one is born. This is an extraordinary connection that helps prevent diseases, boost immunity, and even enhance a child’s IQ. As you may have already guessed, I am talking about the relationship between a mother and her child.

When is Mother’s Day in 2022?

Mother’s Day is celebrated in more than forty-six countries across the globe on the second Sunday of May. This year Mother’s Day is on Sunday, 8 May

Why is Mother’s Day celebrated?

Today is the day to thank mothers for all their sacrifices, friendship as well as time and energy devoted by them to nurture us in their golden days of youth. On all other days, we simply receive the benefits of motherly love without having to give it back. Although we should be returning the favors each & every day, even a single day of acknowledgement goes a long way for someone who loves you in a selfless manner. Hence, mother’s day is celebrated to honor the sacrifices mothers made for their children.

First Mother’s Day was celebrated in the United States in 1908 by Anna Jarvis in an attempt to honor not only her own, but all the mothers around the world who sacrifice so much for their loved ones and society as a whole.

How is Mother’s Day celebrated?

To reward mother for being an admirable figure who possesses nothing but unconditional love, here are some thoughtful ideas for celebrating Mother’s Day :-

  • Preparing her favorite breakfast as a break from all her usual hard work.
  • Arranging a family picnic and allow her to feel like a queen.
  • Arranging a soothing massage for her to help alleviate all her physical and mental stresses
  • Chanting Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra for her longevity
  • Performing Gaudaan (giving donation for the mother cow) for her well-being

Significance of Mother

In my opinion, when one does talk about their mother, they should be able to talk for an extended period of time if not endlessly. The power of a mother truly amazes me as they not only are kind, selfless individuals, but they also play an important role in disciplining & preparing their children to face the challenges of this world. In addition to giving birth to a child, a mother is the initial teacher and supporter that the child meets. In countless occasions in history, it has been proved that mothers have served as pillars of success and support behind all success stories. A mother has the power to help her children overcome any problems, insecurities, and negative feelings. Furthermore, a mother also plays a significant role in introducing a child to his rich culture.

Pujya Maiyaji Lakshmi Devi

History has had its fair share of exceptional mother figures; however, I would specifically like to dedicate this blog to a wonderful mother Pujya Maiyaji Lakshmi Devi, who is an ideal for all mothers in today’s day and age. She has proven that being a woman does not represent being weak but rather is a representation of the power of tolerance, sacrifice and endless, selfless love for everyone. If one looks back at Maiyaji’s experiences, he can infer that it has come with her fair share of struggles. Although she faced numerous challenges, she has proved herself as an ideal daughter, wife and mother. Throughout her life she has continued to support her husband & has set an example of a great wife like “Maa Sita ji ‘’ with her strong and powerful Pativrata dharma. Maiyaji has performed the role of a phenomenal mother by teaching all good values to her daughter Prernamurti Bharti Shriji and making her capable of guiding the current generation towards the right path.

One special thing that always touches my heart about Maiyaji is her modest lifestyle that makes her so special. Shriji once mentioned how her mother was asked by one of her devotees, why she decided to reuse the same handkerchief numerous times despite being able to afford even a new (sari) dress every single day for the whole year. In response to this she simply smiled & gently replied “that means, I must save what I have, so that my children can benefit from it.”.

Another example that sets her apart from an ordinary woman and proves her greatness, is how she was able to completely change herself and adapt the lifestyle of her husband and in-laws. This great mother therefore aims to remind all women that sacrifice does not make one weaker, but rather strengthens him from within.

According to Shriji, another exceptional thing about Maiyaji is the fact that despite being over 79 years old and diagnosed with multiple health complications, she always has a smile on her face and showers her blessings on those around her. Hence, Shiriji often says that She is proud to be the daughter of a mother who not only looks after her own children but also treats everyone else as if they were her own.

As someone who has been in the company of this exceptional mother, I have been fortunate enough to experience the strength of her affection and blessings despite living thousands of miles away in Canada. It is because of this that I have been able to overcome the challenges that come in my way.

On this special occasion, let’s thank this special mother for her selfless love that she continues to shower upon everyone and pray for her long, healthy life so that we can continue to be fortunate enough to receive both her motherly love & guidance. In today’s day & age, a motherly figure like Pujya Maiyaji is necessary to guide all women so that they can successfully raise their children with correct values to contribute positively to society and make the world a better place.

I would like to wish all readers a very Happy Mother’s Day. If you happen to be away from your mother, I would like to urge you to connect with her via video call as I am sure it would make her day! Please feel free to let me know any additional ways in which you will be celebrating Mother’s Day!
