Republic Day 2022

Is Republic Day a holiday / Why do we celebrate Republic Day?

Republic Day is a national holiday in India. However, schools celebrate the day with patriotic passion, with students and teachers organizing programs and performances to mark the day. Republic Day signifies the celebration of the empowerment of Indian citizens to select their own government. This national holiday honors the process of establishment of the Indian Constitution.

Why do we call it Republic Day?

Though India became a free nation on August 15, 1947, it declared itself an Independent, Self-governing and Republic state with the adoption of the Constitution on 26-Jan-1950.  The Constitution gave the citizens of India the power to choose their own government, the way for democracy.
